TWENTY QUESTION BOOK TAG

Updated: Jun 15, 2023

A drawing of a book with flowers coming out of it.

Have you ever watched a book tag video on YouTube and felt like joining in? I know I have! Whenever I see one on my YouTube feed or TikTok explore page, I just can't resist answering the questions out loud like a crazy person.

Book tags are fun and interactive ways to share your opinions and preferences on books and reading; they usually involve answering a series of questions related to a theme or genre.

The time has finally come for me to post my first ever book tag! And I am so excited to make this blog post because I always have so much fun answering bookish questions!

I have found a list of twenty questions that I feel is beginner friendly and by the end of this post, you'll learn more about me and my reading habits, and maybe even discover some new books to add to your TBR list.

Are you ready to join me in this book tag adventure? Let's get started!

1) How many books are too many for a series?

I have to admit that I am so guilty of abandoning book series halfway through, even if I love them and want to go back to them. I can't resist the temptation of new books that catch my eye.

However, I do usually get around to finishing them in the end, even if it takes me longer than most readers. I think that for me, it makes it all the more satisfying when I do finally finish that last book. To answer the question, I don't think that there is a set number of books that is too many for a series. But as soon as I read an obvious filler book, I will switch off and move onto something new for a while.

2) How do you feel about cliffhangers?

It's a stormy relationship for sure. I love them for the thrill they give me; but I also hate them for the utter agony that they cause me. If a book ends on a cliffhanger and I know there is another book coming then I love the anticipation... however, if there is a cliffhanger ending on standalone or a finale, the frustration alone is enough to give me a month long book hangover.

3) Hardcover or paperback?

They both have their pros and cons. In terms of practicality, paperbacks are the obvious winner... they're bendier, lighter, cheaper, and if you drop it on your face whilst reading at night your much less likely to brake your nose. But Hardbacks feel so exciting, maybe its because i only buy them as a treat, or because they are just SO PRETTY.

4) Favourite book?

My favourite book is 'The Secret History' by Donna Tartt... keep your eyes peeled for a review coming VERY soon!

5) Least favourite book?

Okay, I don't like being negative about literature because I don't ever want to seem like I am criticizing anybody for their reading tastes... I encourage everybody to read what makes them happy. However, in my personal opinion... My friend recently recommended to me a book called "Crave" and it was rough. I swear the book caused me physical pain, it was just so comically bad. After reading all six hundred pages in one day, my brain felt numb.

6) Love triangles, yes or no?

I grit my teeth and roll my eyes, but then I move on.

7) The most recent book you couldn’t finish?

I have not actually given this book a fair chance yet, but after receiving many warnings about this book, I think I need some more time to mentally prepare before I dive in. Of course, I'm talking about "A Little Life" by Hanya Yanagihara.

8) A book you’re currently reading?

The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi

S.A. Chakraborty

I mean... I'm literally only thirty pages in... but so far so good.

9) Last book you recommended to someone?

I actually just recommended the book 'Before the coffee gets cold' to my mum... and I recommend it to you too!

10) Oldest book you’ve read by publication date?

Okay, I'm not sure if this is the oldest but I actually have a cool story about a book published in 1857 called "Granny's Wonderful Chair" A few years ago, my parents were doing a very small house renovation when they found a book hidden underneath the floor at the top of our staircase. It was left with a note that explained that the book belonged to a world war two evacuee child, and she had vowed to come back and get it one day after the war. I often think about her and i try to keep the book in good condition to respect her wishes.

11) Newest book you've read?

I'm not sure when the books I have read were published. I'm aware that is probably something that I should make more of an effort to check. But I have just purchased the book "The Cats We Meet Along the Way" by Nadia Mikail, which I believe is a fairly new release. Therefore, that will be the newest book that I will have read very soon!

12) Favourite author?

This is a hard question to answer because I love so many different genres and I feel like my answer will always change based on the last few books that I have read. Right now, I would probably say that I am loving the books by Toshikazu Kawaguchi, Marissa Meyer and Tracy Deonn. Moreover, I will always have a special place in my heart for John Green who introduced me to the bookish community when I was eleven years old and 'not like other girls' .

13) Buying books or borrowing books?

Please don't hate me, please don't cancel me but if I'm being honest I absolutely love buying new books and adding to my collection. This doesn't mean that I don't use the library- I do, quite frequently- but I love the sense of accomplishment or excitement that I feel when I know that a book is mine.

14) A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?

'A good girls guide to murder' by Holly Jackson. I just couldn't get into it.

15) Bookmarks or dog-ears?

Well technically speaking... neither! I prefer bookmarks. I have an abundance of them, but I rarely use them. I use just about everything else... receipts, hair bobbles, spare pennies that I found hidden in the deepest depths of my pocket...

I wish I could say that dog-ears don't bother me. I actually love the look of them, I think they make books seem so much more well loved and read, but for some reason I can't bring myself to dog ear my own books anymore.

16) A book you can always reread?

Books like 'Heidi' or 'Anne of Green Gables' always make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. They remind me of innocence and imagination and i always feel like I am connecting with my younger self whenever I read them.

17) Can you read while listening to music?

This is going to sound very cringy, but my favourite things to listen to while I read are those 'dark academia playlists' on YouTube. I don't know why that's so embarrassing to admit, because it's really good music most of the time. I prefer music to be lyricless when I read, because I am very easily distracted and a reading session can go off the rails very quickly and morph into a session of bad karaoke.

18) One POV or multiple POVs?

I think it depends on how well they are written. There is nothing worse when your fully invested in a story and then the 'boring POV' takes over for a while. I do really enjoy the different perspectives though, when it's done right.

19) How long (on average) does it take you to finish a book.

Well, it really depends on things like : how long is the book? is it fast or slow paced? What is the writing style? Who is it aimed at?

I think that I am overthinking this question but it is a really hard one to answer. If I was really invested in a book (lets just say about four hundred pages) it might take me anywhere from one to three days on average.

20) Who do you tag?

I tag anyone who reads this and wants to give it a go!

Okay! That's all twenty questions done and dusted!

I think that I want to do more bookish themed challenges and tags and my blog, if you liked this post and want to read more like this, I do answer a bookish questions regularly over in the forum section of my blog!

Thank you so much for reading if you made it this far!
