The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, without a doubt. I read this coming of age contemporary fiction for the first time when I was in year nine and I swear that it changed me as a person, I am still not and never will be over the ending.
This epistolary novel encourages readers to think about passivity vs. passion though the lens of the books protagonist 'Charlie' as he writes letters that are so intimate and devastating and honest. I would have loved to talk about this book in school, though we would probably have homework on the quote that got me through the confusing transition of life, that goes hand in hand with being thirteen. 'We accept the love we think we deserve'
